Walton Village Platinum Jubilee Plans

The Platinum Jubilee of Elizabeth II is being celebrated in 2022 in the Commonwealth to mark the 70th anniversary of the accession of Queen Elizabeth II on 6 February 1952. Across the country, communities will be celebrating this special jubilee and Walton village will be no exception. The Parish and Village Hall Councils together with the Church, are preparing a weekend of celebrations and activities for the weekend of the 4th and 5th of June. Plans are being formalised now however we are pleased to announce the following program. Any proceeds from the weekend which will be predominantly free will be split three ways across the church, the village and a charity, which will be confirmed in the coming weeks.

Decorating the village

In preparation for the Jubilee, we will be decorating the village! The jubilee team will be providing 2 km of bunting which will be used to primarily decorate the village hall, the church and pub. Village residents can also collect some of the bunting (subject to availability) on the 28th May.

We would encourage the village to decorate their houses as well!

Saturday 4th June -Village Scarecrow Event

On the 4th of June, there will be a village scarecrow event which will start and end at St Peter’s Church Walton. The church will be serving coffee, tea, cake and light refreshments (The pub will also be open for drinks). The event will run from 10 am until 4 pm and the theme of the scarecrow event will be significant events from the reign of Queen Elizabeth II!

Participating households will be asked to pay a small fee to enter and will be added to the trail map which can be collected from the church. Anybody wishing to enter the scarecrow trail contact Richard Prudhoe by email or phone by the 21st of May.

Sunday 5th June – Jubilee Gardens opening

The Village Hall Committee is pleased to announce plans to have the newly planted trees in the Halls grounds be accompanied by a flower and shrub garden and new benches. This project has been led by Brian and Mark and it is planned that over the next few weeks the garden at the bottom of the village hall will be developed in preparation for the platinum jubilee.

If any of our volunteers would like to get involved in planting the shrubs, then please will you contact Brian directly. There will be a plaque to commemorate this garden and will be formally opened at the Jubilee event on Sunday 5th June.

Sunday 5th June – Picnic in the village

On Sunday the focus of the celebrations will be a picnic on the village grounds. Gates will be opened at 12 o’clock for this free to attend event, with festivities running until 6 pm. The picnic will commence at 1 pm, shortly after the official opening of the jubilee garden. At 2:30 pm there will be village games and throughout the day there will be a number of stalls set up
within the grounds of the hall, a raffle, an auction and a crown competition for the kids to get involved with the day’s celebrations.
